Inventory-Driven Experiences (Search, SRPs, VDPs)

Overview

Inventory-driven experiences are where most Marketplace leads are generated. These experiences are optimized for fast browsing, detailed vehicle research, and clear lead capture.

The two core experiences are:

  • Search results pages (SRPs): browse and filter inventory
  • Vehicle detail pages (VDPs): view one vehicle and submit a lead

Search results pages (SRPs)

SRPs help shoppers narrow a large inventory set quickly.

What shoppers can do

Depending on configuration, shoppers can:

  • Filter by make, model, year, body style, condition, and availability
  • Filter by location in multi-rooftop setups
  • Filter by price range and mileage range
  • Filter by popular features
  • Sort results by price, year, mileage, and other common fields

What your team should know

  • SRPs are driven by a search index so filtering feels fast and responsive.
  • The inventory shown on SRPs typically excludes sold units.
  • If a vehicle is hidden, it should not appear in SRP results.

Vehicle detail pages (VDPs)

VDPs are designed to convert shopper intent into leads.

What shoppers see

A VDP commonly includes:

  • Photos and vehicle highlights
  • Core specs and options
  • Pricing and savings display
  • Dealership location details
  • Contact and conversion actions

Lead capture on VDPs

VDPs typically support multiple CTAs, such as:

  • Request a quote
  • Schedule a test drive
  • Check availability
  • Start a finance application
  • Value a trade

The exact CTAs depend on the site configuration.

How inventory relates to performance

Because inventory pages carry large datasets, they are built to load and update efficiently.

Common platform behaviors include:

  • Fast search responses on SRPs
  • Efficient vehicle page data loading on VDPs
  • Consistent indexing rules so new inventory appears predictably

Common inventory troubleshooting patterns

A vehicle is missing

Common causes:

  • The vehicle is marked sold or not available in the source system
  • The vehicle is hidden
  • The vehicle is not yet in the latest sync window

A vehicle shows the wrong location

Common causes:

  • The dealer code or rooftop mapping is incorrect
  • The Location identities are not configured correctly

Pricing looks different than expected

Common causes:

  • Display price is missing and a fallback is being used
  • Discounts or rebates are provided differently in the source feed
  • Location or site settings affect how pricing is displayed

For pricing-specific behavior and calculations, see the pricing page in this Inventory section.
