Section-Level Styling Options
Overview
Some content sections in Marketplace allow you to set background and text colors. These controls are designed for marketing and content pages and do not replace the site-wide theme.
Section-level styling is the primary styling control available to clients in the CMS.
How section colors work
Sections that support styling typically include:
- Background color
- Text color
Some sections also include additional color options, such as card backgrounds.
Theme swatches vs custom colors
When choosing colors, you will typically have two options.
Use a theme swatch (recommended)
This option keeps your content aligned with the site’s theme.
Benefits:
- You pick from an approved palette.
- Colors remain consistent across the site.
- If Auto Genius updates the theme swatch values, your section updates automatically.
Use a custom color
This option allows a one-off color choice.
Considerations:
- The section may not match the rest of the site.
- Theme updates will not update the custom color.
Which sections typically support styling
Section color controls are commonly available on sections such as:
- Hero
- Media with text
- Media card group
- Rich text
- Text with action
- Info group
- Reviews
- Locations
- Brands
- Comparison table
The available options may differ slightly by section type.
What you can achieve with section styling
Common use cases include:
- Creating a visual break between sections on a landing page
- Highlighting a promotion without changing the overall theme
- Improving readability for a specific content block
What section styling does not change
Section styling does not change:
- Header and footer styling
- Inventory module styling on SRPs and VDPs
- Button shapes and global spacing
- Fonts and typography scale
For site-wide styling updates, request a theme update from Auto Genius.
