What You Can and Cannot Customize
Overview
Marketplace separates styling into two layers:
- Theme tokens managed by Auto Genius
- Section-level styling options you can control in certain content sections
This boundary keeps your site on-brand while ensuring key modules remain consistent and reliable.
What Auto Genius can change for you
Auto Genius can adjust the site-wide theme tokens that control:
- The swatch palette and how colors map to UI roles
- Typography, including font families and the full type scale
- Spacing and padding across layout and components
- Border widths and border radii
- Shadows and focus states
- Image aspect ratios
- Maximum content width
- Project-level theme assignment, including variants and overrides
- Optional CSS overrides for project-specific refinements
These changes apply across the whole site because they are delivered as CSS variables.
What you can customize in the CMS
Clients can typically customize colors inside certain content sections.
Common section-level options include:
- Background color for a section
- Text color for a section
- In some sections, a card background color
These options are available only on sections that expose styling controls.
Theme swatches vs custom colors
When you pick a color in a section, you will typically see two modes:
Use a theme swatch (recommended)
- You choose from the project’s theme swatches.
- Your section stays on-brand.
- If Auto Genius updates the theme, sections using swatches update automatically.
Use a custom color
- You can enter an arbitrary color.
- The section will not automatically update when the theme changes.
Custom colors are useful for rare edge cases, but swatches are recommended for consistency.
What you cannot customize directly
To keep the site consistent, most global styling is not edited directly in content:
- The swatch palette itself
- Font families and typography scale
- Button shape, spacing, and default button colors
- Header and footer styling
- Inventory module styling on SRPs and VDPs
- Layout templates and grid structure
When to request a theme change
You should request a theme update from Auto Genius when:
- Your brand guidelines change
- You want a refresh that applies across the full site
- You need accessibility improvements like higher contrast
- You want consistent updates across inventory and content pages
Section-level styling is best when you want a one-page visual variation without changing the entire site.
