Locations, Inventory, and Content (How They Work Together)

This page explains how Locations, inventory, and your edited content work together in Marketplace.

Locations

A Location is a Sanity document that represents one physical dealership location.

Depending on your setup, a Location can include:

  • Address and map details
  • Department hours (Sales, Service, Parts, and more)
  • Phone numbers
  • Policies and legal text
  • Reviews (when enabled)
  • Media like hero images or gallery images

Some Location fields are connected to upstream systems and are managed as part of your platform configuration.

Inventory

Inventory is live data connected to your Marketplace site.

  • Inventory is not stored as Pages in Sanity.
  • Inventory typically comes from your dealership systems and is connected through your Locations.

Inventory powers:

  • Search results pages (SRPs)
  • Vehicle detail pages (VDPs)
  • Dynamic counts in certain Sections (for example Brands or Body Style Sections, when used)

Content you edit in Sanity

Your Pages are built from Sections. Some Sections are fully authored by you (for example Hero or Rich Text). Others are data-driven.

Common data-driven Sections include:

  • Locations sections that display Location cards
  • Reviews sections that display current reviews (when enabled)
  • Brands or Body Style sections that use inventory-based counts (when enabled)

How it comes together on the website

When a visitor loads a page:

  • Marketplace renders the page using the Route and Page you configured
  • Your authored content displays from the Sections you added
  • Live location and inventory data is pulled where the Section is designed to use it

Tips for editors

  • Use preview to confirm that the correct location and inventory context is showing.
  • If content looks correct in Studio but not on the live site, confirm the content is published.
