Navigation and Header Configuration
Overview
Navigation and header configuration determines how visitors move through your site and what actions are available in the header.
Marketplace uses navigation documents that define lists of links and menus. Global Site Settings references these navigation documents so they can be applied consistently across the site.
How navigation is structured
Navigation is built from navigation items, which can represent:
- A single link
- A grouped list of links
- A labeled dropdown or grouped section
- A list of social links
Each link has:
- A label (which can be localized)
- A destination (internal path, external URL, a form action, or a file)
- Optional icon settings
Default navigation vs route overrides
Most pages use the default header navigation from Global Site Settings.
Some routes can override navigation for specific URLs. This is commonly used for:
- Campaign landing pages
- Form flows where you want a simplified navigation
- Special promotions
Paid media navigation
Your site can use different navigation when a visitor arrives through a paid campaign.
When enabled, Marketplace can switch to a paid media header and paid media footer when the URL includes campaign tracking parameters.
Header action options
The header can optionally include common visitor actions.
Common options include:
- Phone display in the header
- Tap-to-call phone icon
- Tap-to-text icon for SMS leads
- Search icon or search bar (coming soon)
- Optional location selector (coming soon)
Not every site uses every option. Your configuration determines which actions appear.
Recommended approach
- Keep primary navigation focused on the core shopping and contact paths.
- Use route overrides for campaign pages that need a different experience.
- Review header behavior on mobile and desktop after any navigation update.
