What a Location Is
Overview
A Location is a Sanity document that represents a physical dealership. It can represent a store, service center, or any other physical presence.
Locations are used to power public-facing experiences like location detail pages, location selectors in forms, and location-aware modules such as reviews.
Location and Place
Locations are built on top of a Place.
- Place: The shared address record that stores the physical address.
- Location: The dealership-facing overlay that references a Place and adds operational and display data.
In most configurations, many Location fields are hidden until a Place is connected. This helps keep address data consistent and centrally managed.
Where you edit a Location in Sanity
A Location typically includes three areas in Studio:
- Connections: How this Location connects to the project and shared Place record, plus operational references.
- Details: Display and configuration fields used across the site.
- SEO: Default and override SEO settings for the Location.
Common Location data (high level)
Depending on your setup, a Location may include:
- Name and short name for display
- Media such as a hero image, map image, and gallery images
- Departments and department hours
- Identities such as phone numbers, platform identifiers, and dealer codes
- Policies and legal disclaimers
- Reviews and review display controls
- Visibility settings for location pages and form selectors
- Optional per-location label overrides for specific CTAs and pricing text
